It looks pretty cool from the commercials, but I’m waiting to see how it rates with the folks who are braving the lines today to be the *first* to buy one. Then again, I’m in a contract with my current cell company and I’m “not eligible for a new phone at this time”.
I’ll let you know when they make it to New Zealand. Won’t be for at least another year to 18 months, and even then the cell net providers may not support it. You’d have a phone that can’t make phone calls but could play you a movie.
And, of course, the North Americans will have bug tested it for us by then Just like the iPod.
Still, as an exercise in design, marketing and hype it’s intriguing, and Apple does well at creating ‘love mark’ type brands. See,
Great hype. Excellent marketing. Lackluster product from a features standpoint, but awesome from a user experience one.
I have 8GB in my Treo 680 and while I am not jealous on the device itself, I am on the UI. I really hope all mobile makers pay attention here.
Just wrote a piece about what Bible reader [should] work on the iPhone. I really hope that my vanguard ways finally make sense to Bible software makers, churches, and users.
This weekend will be interesting. Hope there is no bad batch of these breaking, because that will be one loud media scream.
I got one last night and am very pleased with it so far. There are some minor issues, but those would be expected with a first generation product like the iPhone. Most of them can be addressed via software updates.
Technodiva – I’m in a contract too but I’ve decided to opt out and go for it.
Stephen – I knew you’d have a link somewhere in that server you refer to as a memory, not to mention a comment that applies logic to the subject.
Antoine – Your mobile seniority grants your perspective extra points, plus gold stars for throwing in a Bible reader iPhone reference. This definitely needs it’s own full post.
And Matt & Rebecca – congratulations. Yes, Rebecca, we’ve all heard that you were there when Steve Woz. arrived.

I got mine last night and I love it. My hubby is jealous! (It was my birthday, anniversary…everything gift!) It is so much fun to use and so easy.
Great mix of comments.
