To the relief of some people, GodTube is changing it’s name.

Here’s the GodTube is Changing it’s Name link.

Here’s a link from GodTube CEO, Jason Illian.

Any suggestions for what they’ll rename it?

I wonder if keeping all this Christian content on a separate website is a good idea? Whilst Christians will visit YouTube and will be able to explore a range of content, someone who isn’t a Christian is very unlikely to check out GodTube (or whatever it ends up being called). If Christians put their content on YouTube (or Vimeo), rather than their own website, the likelihood of other people stumbling across Christian content would be greater. What do other people think?

Rumor is that the new name is “Tangle.com.” Its going to be more of a social network than just a video sharing site… at least thats what the word is I hear.

Brian, yes, Tangle.com is what I heard also. Here’s a ChurchCrunch post with that information ( http://churchcrunch.com/2009/01/16/tanglecom-social-network-sneek-peek-or-not/ )

Steve, this is the single most common argument I hear both for and against everything “Christian” and it applies across the board to music, all forms of media, social networking sites, etc.

Those with a missional bent insist the goal is to get the message to those who wouldn’t hear it by going to anything specifically labeled “Christian”. Preaching to the converted is a waste of time to those with this perspective.

How about Jesustube? Or more befitting Cheeseustube?

YouTube? Oh, wait… don’t we already have a video sharing site called that? Hmmm… Maybe we just don’t need another video sharing website unless it’s an improvement on what’s already out there. We need to innovate and create, not make sanitized copies of stuff in the culture.

No matter what you call it, if it’s just a “Christianized” rip-off it will only serve to increase the cultural divide between us and the lost.

Just got the announcement today via e-mail. It is geared more toward a social network. Don’t know whether it will take off or not, but I do like the graphics.
