Story is a first-of-its-kind experience for communicators of the Gospel – the greatest story ever told. It will be held on Wednesday, October 28 at the Paramount Theater in Aurora, Illinois. Although we’ve been talking about Story for a while, it was Ben Arment who reminded me that the launch of the new website is today.
Speakers include Donald Miller, Nancy Beach, Dave Gibbons, Ed Young, Stacy Spencer, Chris Seay and Mike Foster. A day of workshops will follow on October 29 at nearby Orchard Valley Community Church (pastored by Scott Hodge), featuring illustrators, designers, scholars, authors and communications experts.
You can see the workshop speakers, including myself, here. Register for the conference and enter to win 2 free trips to the Kilns – CS Lewis’ home in Oxford, England – at www.StoryChicago.com.

Question I have is how unique is it really? It seems we have conference-cest. Same people at all the conferences..
Groupthink?
Hi Mark – ok, so you’ve picked up on the fact that I tend to love whatever it is that Donald Miller is speaking at next…. but the thing I find unique about this conference is that the entire day following is being dedicated to breakout workshops, interactive dialog, and the exploration of how we can really communicate the Gospel more effectively with our daily lives (our stories).
Which is partly what they tried to do with innovation3 right? interactive, workshops etc?
My question still remains though same people, and much of the same thoughts.. are we falling into groupthink?
Don’t get me wrong, definitely not questioning the people. I like Donald Miller too
Yes, Innovation3 was one of the first conferences I attended like that (altho I ended up in the Green Room the entire time so really don’t know how effective the breakouts were).
The Idea Camp is an even better example. Much more diverse in speaker lineup, format, cost, larger interactive opportunities, etc. I think we’re pulling in new directions as a result of the diffusion of new media values & impacts (which I wax on constantly) and continuing to innovate something better than “traditional conference format”.
