In case you've been hearing the term SXSW and still don't know what everybody's always talking about, this is a great time to check out the wrap-ups as another year draws to a close.  SXSWeek is the nine-day sensory overload that occurs in Austin, Texas every March.

The fun begins on Friday, March 7, which is the first day of the SXSW Interactive Festival and the SXSW Film Conference and Festival.  The SXSW Film Conference and the SXSW Interactive Festival run through Tuesday, March 11, and screenings for the SXSW Film Conference run through Saturday, March 15.  The world-famous SXSW Music Conference and Festival begins Wednesday, March 12 and runs through Sunday, March 16.  Established in 1987, the SXSW Music Conference and Festival is one of the world's largest music industry gatherings, featuring more than 1300 bands from across the nation and around the globe.

In recent years the internet crowd has begun to populate the event and lately, it seems like emerging technology is taking a front seat more often.    You can quench your thirst for all things SXSW Interactive by checking out the SXSW Podcast Page, which contains tons and tons of FREE audio content.  Then make sure you are subscribed to their SXSW Podcast RSS Feed.

If you want some personal impressions from a technology leader with a Christian worldview, you can check out Terry Storch - he's been blogging snippets for days.

More importantly, come and pledge support for the Not For Sale Campaign like we did with the proceeds of Wikiklesia: Voices of the Virtual World.

Innovate 2007 podcast up

Cynthia on June 25th, 2007

Innovate

Kim Meyer is counting backwards to Innovate 2007 and she has a podcast (along with Granger executive pastor Tim Stephens) to prove it.  First episode went live last week and although I haven't listened yet, I do know she talks to uberblogger Guy Kawasaki who'll be at the September event.

Innovate 2007, a Wired Churches.com production, is designed to give leaders ideas about how to make a permanent mark in the world.  Ironically, Guy just had all his marks erased by having his virtual presence upgraded through photo retouching thanks to Pixilu Imaging.

Wikiklesia e-book Project

        Not For Sale Campaign

Wikiklesia: Voices of the Virtual World, is a collective anthology designed to explore the growing influence of technology on the global Christian Church.  A diversity of authors with multiple and varied perspectives, bridging denominational (or lack thereof) lines, all published together in a self-organizing experiment?  What an endeavor!  They contacted me a couple of months ago and asked if I'd contribute a chapter.  Risky, probably. Controversial, most likely.  A way to learn some wiki syntax?!  Positively; I'm in.

As a virtual publication (sorry, I know even the word publishing is so old school) done in real time; 4 weeks, start to finish, the only way to accomplish such a project is via wiki.  It's a great opportunity to explore some of the questions surrounding the new media.  Does cooperation without collaboration accomplish definable goals?  Does user generated content have value for anyone other than the users who generated it?  Is a project with such a diverse contingency sustainable minus defined leadership?  (One of my Google Groups is having serious trouble in this very area.) Are there downsides to "edit summary" wikitext?

John La Grou and Len Hjalmarson are acting as editors for this publication but in self-organizing fashion will pass it along next year, providing its got support.  Since wikis are often criticized for their reliability because individuals may maliciously (or accidently) introduce false or misleading content, we'll see whether the apostles & the prophets "influence" its future or whether it ends up hijacked by misguided mystics.

Certainly unconventional (I like that), possibly insightful (we like that), it's a risk for all of us to be in the company of each other.  Best of all, since I just read the book, I'm happy to support the Not For Sale Campaign. You'll be able to get the pdf on Amazon and the podcast from the site itself.

Creative Synergy podcast logo

Just received an email from Greg Atkinson and the new podcast from Creative Synergy is up covering “Copyright and the Church”.  Anthony Coppedge and Greg interviewed 3 copyright professionals (including two lawyers) and had a great discussion. This is their 5th podcast and is designed for for any church leader / staffer who has questions about copyright law.

Also included is a better understanding of the Church Copyright Administration.

Additionally, one of Greg's other sites, Church Video Ideas just provided this exhaustive list of media resources so you never have to go searching again:
