If you’ve recently moved to the Overland Park area to buy a home, then apparently you’ve come to the right place. And good timing.
That’s according to Niche, a data analytics website that publishes a variety of annual rankings on everything from schools to places to live.
Overland Park took Niche’s top spot on its 2022 list of “best cities to buy a home.”
Niche says it ranks cities based on data from the U.S. Census Bureau, FBI, and other data sources to “provide a comprehensive assessment of an area’s housing and community.”
For each city, the website says it considers several factors of a location’s housing market, including:
- house values,
- Local taxes,
- crime rate
- and the quality of local schools.
These factors are all combined into a final score that attempts to gauge the quality and stability of an area’s real estate market.
“I’m proud to see Overland Park continue to be recognized as one of the best places to live, work, go to school and settle down,” Mayor Curt Skoog said in a statement to the Post. “We work diligently to maintain and improve our community and ensure that anyone who wants to live here can do so.”
With a population of about 191,000, Niche estimates the median home value in Overland at $276,100 and a median rent at $1,164.
The city has been characterized as a “dense suburb” based on measures of housing stock, population density, and proximity to amenities in the area.
According to the website, 37% of Overland Park residents are renters, while 63% are homeowners.
While Overland took the top spot on Niche’s “best cities to buy a home” list, the city has also ranked highly on several other website lists this year.
