Citizens create website on missing persons in Tijuana

TIJUANA (Border Report) – The Baja California Human Rights Commission has so far this year received more than a dozen complaints from families who say state investigators have done very little to search for their missing relatives. Now the citizens have created a website to help.

According to the state attorney general’s office, nearly 13,000 people have been reported missing since 2007.

The site is called Desaparecer in Baja California; translated, it means Gone in Baja California.

He is also tracking down underground graves where bodies have been found throughout the region.

“This phenomenon of secret graves is a dark spot on Baja California,” said Renata Demichelis Ávila, founder of the missing persons website.

Demichelis added that they will update statistics and information every three months.

“The main problem facing the families of the missing, who have been forcibly taken away, is that there is no follow-up by investigators and there is no place to get information.” , said Demichelis.

According to her, the website was created primarily as a database to help families while updating information on people who have gone missing, which has increased in recent years, not only in Baja California, but in all of Mexico.

“We want the site to become a source of confidential, factual and up-to-date information so that everything is accurate, especially when someone is located. He will also have all the necessary documents related to the research and the case, ”said Demichelis.
