Elk Grove School District Uses Social Media To Encourage Students To Get Vaccinated

The Elk Grove Unified School District is launching a social media campaign to encourage its students aged 12 and over to get vaccinated. Communications director Xanthi Soriano said the school district saw an increase in quarantines this month as more students returned to class and started playing sports again. She said that when a student becomes ill with COVID-19, an entire sports team can be quarantined, however that would not be the case if those other students were fully vaccinated and had no symptoms. Guidance from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention says fully vaccinated people should not be quarantined after being exposed to someone who has tested positive for COVID-19. This is one of the messages that the Elk Grove School District is trying to get students to understand. Their social media campaign on Twitter, Facebook and Instagram includes phrases such as “avoid quarantine and get vaccinated.” The district will also host a Pfizer vaccination clinic for students and their families this Sunday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Valley High School. The district said there were 2,000 spaces available. Students under the age of 18 must be accompanied by their parent or guardian, as well as a duly completed consent form. Those interested can go here to register for an appointment.
