On October 4, apps and websites for Facebook, Instagram, Messenger and WhatsApp were all down and unavailable during an apparent outage. It appears to have occurred around 11:45 a.m. Eastern Time.
On Facebook, an error page read: “Sorry, something went wrong. We are working on it and will fix it ASAP. Instagram and WhatsApp posted a “Server Error 5xx”. Facebook Messenger didn’t load a page at all.
Andy Stone, spokesperson for the Facebook company addressed the issue on Twitter.
We are aware that some people have difficulty accessing our applications and products. We are working to get things back to normal as quickly as possible, and we apologize for any inconvenience.
