Gregg County website address to change | Local News

The address of the Gregg County website will change, but residents who visit the site for services should not notice a difference.

County Information Technology Director Derold Miller on Monday proposed to Gregg County Commissioners to change the county’s current website address from to Commissioners voted in favor of the proposal, which was adopted.

In a letter to the commissioners ahead of the meeting, Miller said moving to a domain for the county followed state practice.

“To promote the reliability of the Texas government online information and services, ‘’ has been designated as the primary domain name for the government of Texas according to the Texas Department of Information Resources,” he said. -he declares.

Miller said on Monday that the process of implementing the change would be carried out one department at a time throughout the fiscal year.

“We don’t want to hit everyone at the same time,” said Miller, whose department would be responsible for the changes.

County Judge Bill Stoudt assured those in attendance, including several department heads, that the domain name change would not disrupt operations. He said county funds would not be wasted on changing business cards, landline addresses or current email addresses. The county will be responsible for the annual payment of $ 125 for the domain name.

Stoudt told the court he spoke to Miller ahead of the meeting to ask him to explain how the changes would affect various county departments.

Miller told the court that any digital document or file with the current domain name would not be obsolete or should not be changed immediately. By using a primary and secondary address, future visitors to the current website address will be redirected to the new one, he said.

Miller also said the transition will start slowly.

“(It’s) wise to start with the big (departments) and work down,” he said.

Miller said his plan first targets the Gregg County Sheriff’s Office.
