India’s monthly mobile shopping app installs hit 113 million in October

Shopping app installs on Indian app stores reached 113 million downloads in October 2021, at the height of the shopping season in the country.

Although 2020 saw an increase in online shopping, the pace slowed in 2021, Sensor Tower reports.

Shopping app installs on Indian app stores reached over 80 million in July 2021, with Indian social e-commerce company Meesho contributing over 12 million.

This was the first time the category has reached this threshold since October 2020 at the height of the shopping season in India, creating momentum for a record-breaking holiday season in 2021.

The average number of monthly active users (MAU) among the top 10 shopping apps increased by around 40% in the second quarter of 2021 compared to the first quarter of 2019 in Thailand, Indonesia and Vietnam.

Average MAUs in Indonesia also showed steady growth when comparing the same two time periods. Meanwhile, the average MAUs among top apps in India declined in Q3 2020 due to Club Factory’s discontinuation in the previous quarter.

In Southeast Asia, monthly shopping category downloads increased temporarily in April 2020. However, they have since declined and have normalized near 2019 levels.

Indonesia maintained its position as the largest shopping app install market in the region, while Vietnam saw the strongest year-over-year growth in July 2021.
