LHC asks session judges to avoid using social media – Pakistan

The Lahore High Court (LHC) has issued a code of conduct for judicial officers across the province, urging them to avoid using social media.

The directives, which were issued on July 8 by the clerk of the LHC, are addressed to all district and sessional judges of the Punjab as well as to the judicial officers in post on the ex-executives.

The instructions come days after Judge Muhammad Ameer Bhatti was sworn in as the 51st Chief Justice of the LHC.

According to the document, a copy of which is available with Dawn.com, the court heard evidence of misconduct and asked officials to comply with the guidelines.

“A judicial officer is supposed to lead a reserved social life, he must therefore avoid using Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and other social media applications,” the statement said.

He also prohibited judicial officers from being included in “unofficial WhatsApp groups” and other “social media modes”, as well as the sharing of “privileged” information. The use of cell phones during court hours, outside of court intervals, was also prohibited.

The court warned against disciplinary action against judicial officers using their influence for assignments / transfers.

He also warned against measures against “often and unnecessary” visits to the High Court without going through the appropriate channels. In case of difficulties, prior authorization through the registrar should be sought, he said.

“Keeping and displaying a blue light on an official vehicle or one deprived of any judicial officer, or putting green plates on private vehicles also constitutes a fault and must be strictly punished. “

She added that bailiffs were required to strictly observe punctuality and wear an official uniform.

The court warned that if it turns out that a judicial officer violates the issued instructions, strict disciplinary action will be taken and the misconduct will also be added to his personal file, which will be taken into account during his promotion.
