Mobile app helps SLO residents pay for downtown parking

SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif .– Paying for street parking in downtown San Luis Obispo will soon be much easier thanks to the city’s implementation of a mobile app called HONK.

Starting Friday, HONK will allow visitors to pay for street parking online instead of using city pay kiosks, which are located every block in downtown.

“Paying for street parking is now more convenient than ever. Visitors to downtown San Luis Obispo can pay for their parking using a mobile app they may already have installed, ”said Gaven Hussey, director of city parking programs. “If you don’t want to download an app, don’t worry. You can still pay for on-street parking through our pay kiosks located every block in downtown.

HONK can be downloaded from the Apple AppStore and the Google Play Store.

The city said street parking is mandatory Monday through Saturday 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. and Sunday 1 p.m. to 9 p.m., including holidays.

Drivers can pay anywhere from $ 1.25 an hour to $ 2 an hour depending on where they park.

City officials said they also plan to offer three more mobile apps for parking on downtown streets in the near future, including:

  • Park Smarter – will be available in downtown SLO from next week and is already in use at Pismo Beach.
  • ParkMobile – will be available soon in downtown SLO and is already in use at the Cal Poly campus.
  • PayByPhone – California’s largest mobile parking app and payment solution will soon be available in downtown SLO.

“To take the hassle out of downloading another parking payment app, we are partnering with four apps that are already in use by many members of the local community and downtown visitors,” Hussey said. “However, if you plan to stay in the city center for more than 5 hours, your best option is to park in one of our three car parks, where the first hour is free, convenient payment terminals are also available and you only pay $ 6, maximum, if parking all day.
