NYS Gaming Commission Still Examining Mobile Sports Betting Apps

ALBANY, NY (NEWS10) – New York State approved mobile sports betting last spring, but implementation remains ongoing.

In April, the legislature passed mobile sports betting as part of the state’s $ 212 billion budget. Online sports betting is expected to gross $ 500 million per year once fully operational.

“The law allows the state to directly operate mobile sports betting. So the $ 500 million will go to the state, ”former Governor Andrew Cuomo said in April.

This money will go to education, youth sports and the fight against gambling addiction.

In July, the New York State Gaming Commission launched a “request for nominations” for mobile sports betting platform providers.

In a statement, a spokesperson for the Gaming Commission said today that “the review of applications is continuing”.

The Commission must choose at least two platform providers and four operators. Some of the names interested in setting up trades include DraftKings, bet365, and BetMGM. Before December 6, the Commission must select the candidates considered to receive a license. These applicants will then have time to modify their documents if necessary before licensing.

Platform providers who obtain a license are charged $ 25 million in fees.
