A 31-year-old man from Silver Springs has been arrested after authorities were told he uploaded child pornography to a social media platform.
On Wednesday, June 30, Major Crime Detective Nicholas Sutliff arrested Will LaPlant on 12 counts of Possession of Child Pornography.
Detective Sutliff received a Cyber ââTip from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children, which stated that LaPlant had uploaded child pornography to a social media platform.
Detective Sutliff’s investigation revealed that LaPlant downloaded the files from an IP address from a house in Silver Springs. A search warrant was obtained for the residence and served by the MCSO’s Major Crimes Unit on Wednesday morning.
LaPlant said he received multiple child pornography files a few months ago and stopped using the social media account because of the incident. However, he later indicated that he had researched groups who would share this material for his personal viewing.
LaPlant has denied having any sexual intent while viewing child pornography, but said there may be files on his electronic devices. Digital forensic technician Newbanks performed an extraction on two cell phones used by LaPlant and found several child pornography files.
LaPlant was placed under arrest and incarcerated in the Marion County Jail on $ 60,000 bail.
