‘The power of digital’ is the key to growing a newspaper business | News

The Bedford Gazette, through its parent company, Sample News Group (SNG), is pleased to announce the hiring of Roy Daugherty as Vice President of Digital Development. Daugherty will help usher the company’s community newspapers into a new era of multimedia publishing.

“Our newly created digital division will complement all of our legacy print publications,” said company CEO George “Scoop” Sample. “Our traditional print products will remain popular for years to come due to the nature of the communities where we publish. But Roy’s appointment signals our long-term commitment to growth, new technologies and the changing media landscape in our hometowns.

Daugherty is based in central Pennsylvania and will regularly visit SNG’s daily newspaper markets in Pennsylvania, New York and New England, as well as the company’s many weekly newspapers. His primary role will be to connect local newspaper business clients to a broader range of advertising and marketing solutions.

“The power of digital continues to grow exponentially,” Daugherty said, citing statistics that roughly $356 billion was spent on digital advertising in 2020, and that spending is expected to reach half a trillion dollars by now. 2025.

Daugherty was most recently Regional Digital Sales Specialist and Director of Digital Sales for Amplified Digital and Lee Enterprise, working for the company’s Carlisle (PA) Sentinel newspaper. Educated at the University of Memphis, Daugherty has also held executive positions at PA Media Group, Penn Live and The Patriot News in Harrisburg.

Along with SNG Newspapers, he will work closely with local publishers and sales reps to help businesses of all sizes deploy multi-channel marketing campaigns that include measured and tracked results. In addition to traditional print and web advertising, SNG’s digital division will provide a one-stop-shop for GoogleAds, SEO, geolocation, email marketing, social media management and other audience targeting solutions. .

“These products and services, when properly implemented, can help local small businesses leverage big box and national brand strategies, positioning them to compete and attract a portion of new web visitors to market,” Daugherty said. “Previously, SNG’s community newspapers had a very limited toolbox to help their local advertisers digitally, but now we will be able to help our key business partners in every market more than ever.”

Sample News Group is a Huntingdon-based private publishing company with 17 daily newspapers and more than 35 weekly and specialty magazines in five mid-Atlantic states. The company also owns and operates approximately 30 local websites and six centralized printing and production facilities, employing more than 700 people in Pennsylvania, New York, New Jersey, Vermont and New Hampshire.
